Eleven Things Volume 11 I might have more than 11...probably going to have lots of random thoughts (what's new?)'ve been warned :)

1.  This was the longest short week ever...

2.  A lady stopped me in the parking lot at the grocery store this morning to tell me how cute my car is and to keep it 'forever'...that settles it...

3.  On President's Day I decided to finally tackle my kitchen backsplash...pretty soon after I moved in (yes over FIVE years ago) the granite backsplash pulled away from the wall...not my idea of a good time...

So, I found caulk saver (you read right, there is such a thing) and some caulk and got to work.  I used Frog Tape for the first time (I've always been a blue tape kinda girl).  No complaints about the tape...just one piece of advice - if you're going to do this - once you've inserted the caulk saver down into the crack between the wall and the countertop - add your bead of caulk, smooth with your finger and then REMOVE the tape - don't be like me.  I left it overnight and figured I'd paint the clear caulk in the morning and not have to re-tape...well when you pull the tape off the caulk comes off as well. I wasn't going for perfection anyway right??

 I reworked my countertop styling:
Yes, eagle-eyes my oven is a mess - hey I cook here ;)
4.  I'm still on the 6-week shred first green smoothie...wasn't bad.  I'm allowing myself to drink a Coke on the weekends and not completely stick to the meal-timing.  This next week is supposed to be the toughest.  I've got to get on track with the working out too, I've been slacking.

5.  I bought myself flowers at the grocery pretty, is it Spring yet?

6.  I got up early Saturday morning to go to an estate sale...I stood in line in the freezing rain...for this piece...but I ended up leaving empty-handed.  They wanted $30 and half the back was missing...just too much work :(  So my nightstand search continues!

7.  I finally picked out a kitchen faucet that I love - my Dad is coming to install it on Thursday - can't wait to see how it looks - I'll share photos once it's in.

8.  I went to Carlisle, PA to treasure hunt (I'm clearly not sticking to my no-spending promise either).  Most of the shops weren't for me but I did find a few treasures:

A vintage lady finger pan, a 'huge' stone ring, an ornate old spreader, and two skeleton keys.  I feel like Zsa Zsa with this ring on, love it!

9. I also stopped at the bead store and picked up some supplies.  I made two new necklaces - one is listed in the Etsy shop -> Minty Dream Necklace

10.  Have you watched Chasing the Saturdays yet?  I love their accents - jamming to one of their songs right now (they've finally released a few on iTunes).
11.  Am I the only one who does this?  I'm leaning towards this blue called Moon Shade for my Master Bedroom re-decoration plan - but I haven't made up my mind yet.

12.  I bought this curtain rod from Target for my bedroom - faux mercury glass.  Now I just need to find velvet drapes in either navy or charcoal (depending on what wall paint color I go with).

13.  I've chosen a roofer and a door company for my basement door - now just waiting for them to get started and wait for the invoices to pile in...blah...

14.  I bought some chalk paint this weekend and decided to jump on the bandwagon...I'm not the President of the fan club just yet.  Don't get me wrong, I like that you don't have to sand but I was expecting miracles for the amount of $$ this paint costs.

I decided to finally paint the console table in my bedroom - I never really loved the cherry wood:

There's a lot of glue around the mirrored pieces (just so you don't think I'm a super-sloppy painter when you see the finished project).

Current styling on the table (so I don't forget what I had there, things move quick around here).  Here's with a coat or so of chalk paint:

15.  I don't think I've painted anything this light in...forever?

16.  I commend you if you're still with me at this point :)

17.  I bought a new lunch bag - does that excite anyone else but me?

18.  I think I'll keep my lady finger pan here while I'm not using it...

19.  I have a project that I'm working on with my skeleton keys - I want to show my collection in a different way than I have them now.  My ever-changing gallery wall:

20.  Glare from the window makes it hard to see - but this is another photo from CA that I made into a canvas.  Love Shutterfly!
21.  Does the weekend have to be over already??
Happy Treasure Hunting!

Making a Small Difference in the Kitchen

Happy President's Day weekend to you!

So far this weekend I've had another door estimate for my basement door...can I tell you it's so not fun spending money on things like basement doors and roofs...but that's homeownership for you.  At least I found a company that can custom make a door for me with glass.  So if an axe murderer is waiting for me at least I'll see him.  Paranoid much?

I also went car shopping...didn't get very far because a) I'm emotionally attached to my car (yes, I know it's not normal) b) the salesperson was very condescending.  I don't do condescending.

I went to Lowes (who is sort of on my crap list for the whole door estimate situation but I'll get over it) looking for a new kitchen faucet but they didn't have exactly what I'm looking for and I refuse to settle anymore.

I also fell way off my shred diet by having a regular soda and pizza (those new pizza sliders from Pizza Hut).  No working out yet either...I'll do better next week :(

I did make a few small changes to my kitchen.  I found a great basket at HomeGoods ($14.99) - for my cutting boards and cookie sheets.  I've been wanting to do this forever.  So much easier than trying to keep them in a drawer.

They just don't make them like they used to...
I had to move some things is my little painted table redo:
(If you remember the lamp that was's going to make a reappearance in my master bedroom redecoration plan...stay tuned)
I thought about listing these vintage depression glass perfume bottles in my Etsy Shop (because who really needs little perfume bottles) but they're just so beautiful, I don't think I can...

So, with all of this spending (basement door, roof, previously mentioned shopping sprees) I'll be taking a break from fabulous vacations, shopping and big home projects.  So expect to see me reallllly trying to stretch a buck over here, I promise it will still be fun and interesting (I hope!).  There's even an estate sale calling my name about 5 minutes away and I'm trying to keep away...::sigh::

Happy Treasure Hunting (if your budget allows ;) )

Shop-aholic tendencies

I'm the first one to admit...I'm a shopaholic.  I'm an emotional shopper...and eater I guess.  Which reminds me - I'm doing the 6 week shred diet...I'm only on day 3 and it's rough.  I had a bunch of tortilla chips today with homemade not on the list of things I'm allowed to be eating...

So remember in my last post how I had a priority list of home improvements and stuff I need to spend money on?  Yeah...well the wheels are in motion and all but I certainly lost my mind with shopping this week.

Beyond all the food I had to buy for this diet (shouldn't I be eating less??)...I bought a new pair of Ugg boots, another North Face jacket (it was on sale :/), a North Face fleece, a pair of expensive sunglasses...and two Coach bags (they were 50% off the Factory price!)...not all in one sitting but close enough.  Ugh...and yet I sit here feeling suffocated by all my possessions...Is it just me?

I did make a couple small purchases that I don't feel so bad is a rug for my kitchen.  I've been looking at all of these expensive West Elm rugs - which are lovely - but at the end of the day it's going in the kitchen and will most likely get all kinds of crap spilled on it...I found this gem at Ikea for $29.99.  Yeah you read right...

I fixed the 'rolling issue' by placing some heavy stuff at the end of the rug overnight and it is laying perfectly now.

I found a preserved boxwood topiary-ish arrangement at HomeGoods for $29.99.  I think it looks pretty cute on my kitchen sink - and I can't kill it!

I had someone come out to do an estimate for replacing my basement door today - just found out it's going to be over $1000 (not including the non-refundable $51 I paid for the estimate).  Pretty bummed because it's so expensive and I can't get any glass in the door - so it will just be a plain boring steel door.  I told the guy over and over again my door now is 28" (with glass ahem) but he didn't believe me...apparently you can't get a new door in that size with glass. are you supposed to look out and make sure there isn't an ax murderer waiting for you on the other side??

Not sure what to door is looking pretty shabby :(

Eleven Things Volume 10

1.  It's been snowing off and on the past couple of days - just enough to be annoying.  I'm thinking I should have gone out yesterday to buy food versus shopping at Lucketts :/

2.  It was so crowded at Lucketts there was no way I could take a minute to even really look around...let alone take any photos for this post.  Sheesh.  I did pick these up blue faceted knobs.  For my new bedroom nightstand...that I've yet to find...

3. I know what you're thinking...those sure look girly...yeah I didn't say I was cured...just a work-in-progress...speaking of...I think I'm leaning towards charcoal gray walls with navy velvet drapes for my bedroom.

4.  I've added a few new items to the Etsy shop - photos below - you can follow the Etsy Shop link on the right sidebar --->

 5.  If you're a collect-a-holic like me - what do you do with all your stuff?  When you've decided to part with it?  Yard sales, Etsy, eBay, donate?

I struggle with this because when I've decided to get rid of something I don't really want it hanging around (where I could easily change my mind and keep it) - which is the case with selling on Etsy/eBay.  Plus, there are so many fees and shipping costs.  I would love to have a huge yard sale but it's too cold right now (and so much work).

6.  I changed up my gallery wall (again) - still not sure I'm in love with it yet.  I bought the new butterfly on Etsy.  Not as bright as I had hoped but still very pretty.

7. I received my second horseshoe letter in the mail last week.  I like how they turned out.

8. I bought this cute chevron fabric bin from Target (only $16.99).  I'm using it to hold some of my overflow from my bookcase styling.

9.  Have I mentioned that I love the new Threshold line at Target?  Really cute, well-made affordable stuff.  (in my opinion anyway)  I picked up this towel hook bar for my bathroom.  I want to replace the existing builder-grade boring one (below) with the four hooks that just seem more functionable for my to figure out how to drill through the stone tile....

10.  Organization is good for the soul.  I re-organized under my kitchen sink this weekend.  I love being able to reach everything - there's a huge space in the back by the plumbing but I'd rather have it that way so I'm not having to reach into the black hole for cleaning products.

I use some of my vintage finds (silver serving dishes and milk glass compotes) for holding some of my dishwashing necessities.

11.  I also found this pot lid organizer from Threshold.  I have it on top of my cabinets so I can keep everything organized without cluttering up a cabinet (I don't have that many as it is).

Do you keep priority lists or wish lists for things around the house?  I submitted my taxes this week and while my refund isn't earth-shattering - I'd like to fix something around the house with it - but how do you decide?  I'd love to renovate my bathroom - it's one of those situations though where it's okay but just not my taste - I wouldn't have chosen the finishes in my bathroom or kitchen for that matter - but how do feel good about ripping out granite countertops??

This is my list for now...obviously my tax refund won't go far but it's a start:

1.  New roof (refund would maybe go towards the down payment)
2.  New faucet in the kitchen
3.  Basement exterior door replacement
4.  Fix/replace fence
5.  Fix/extend driveway
6.  Edging on front flower beds
7.  Crown molding in master bedroom
8.  New mattress for bedroom
9.  Bathroom renovation - refinish tub, replace tile, etc
10.  New car (not for the house but still needed)
11.  Laptop
Any house projects in the works with your tax refunds?
